Native to the South Americas, Tillandsia or air plants as they are commonly known are a member of the Bromeliad family. They get their nickname because they use their short, wiry roots to attach themselves to branches, cliff-faces, even electricity and telephone lines, rather than rooting in soil.
They are among the most indestructible of houseplants. They do not need soil as they live off the moisture in the air.
They like bright, indirect light. In spring and summer, immerse plant in water regularly. Allow them to dry off in between watering.
